HIMSS is a global, cause-based, non-profit organization focused on bettering health through information technology. They produce thought leadership around events, education, market research and media services. I had the opportunity to work with their amazing marketing and creative team at their headquarters in Chicago on a 5-month contract. They hire a freelancer to work with them in-house each year as they gear up for their 5 day long annual conference and exhibition.

HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition Show Guide

I worked with several members of the marketing team including copywriters and the creative director on the printed show conference guide. It outlined all the sessions, included advertiser information, and helped with attendee wayfinding during the event for over 40,0000 attendees. There is unique branding used each year by the creative team that I incorporated into the guide, using several color palettes, custom photography and graphical design elements that gave a cohesive look to the guide and other marketing materials for the event.

Several larger format brochures were produced for the event that I helped create layouts for. I incorporated similar elements as were used in the show guide with the conference branding. More detailed information on specific events was displayed and these were used to send to attendees and potential attendees prior to the show in print and digital formats.

Digital Emails

HIMSS produced daily emails for their more than 61,000 subscribers in healthcare, government, corporations, and other non-profit organizations. These emails advertised to gain attendees for the conference, to provide thought leadership and education information and even holiday wishes during the holiday season. I worked on several of these emails creating the design layouts and email code to be sent out via their marketing automation tool. The holiday card was a real treat with the challenge of creating imagery that was non-denominational while having a fun feel for the season and incorporating the blue and orange color palette to keep it on brand. The purple layout was focused on a networking event for Women in Health IT.
